below is the question asked of me to fix a corrupt file. The issue is:

I recently had an issue with a corrupted file (the same file as the one attached, although the one attached was received two days later). When I open the file straight from the email, I do not have any problems however, when I save it on the network and reopen it, I receive a message that says "excel found unreadable content in your file — do you want to recover the contents of your workbook?" Can you please take a look at the file and let me know if it can be fixed?

Excel found unreadable content i copy of xxxxx-2010 Stautory audit .xls Do you want the source of this workbook, click yes. When we do nothing gets fixed. Another user has the same issue?

I am not sure why excel is not my thing. I have tried to open the file and have recieved errors saying the file may be corrupt, click here and the app will fix it. It never gets fixed?

Manual solution in 6 steps:
1. Rename the file and remove the .xlsx or .xls extention etc e.g. if my file is called test.xlsx I remove the '.xlsx' - you will get a warning message saying this could make the document unstable - accept it
2. The document icon should now have turned white (the document won't look like an excel document anymore)
3. Open a blank excel document by hitting start -> all programs -> Microsoft office -> excel (this may be different if you’re not on windows 7)
4. In your blank excel document hit file -> open
5. Navigate to the document you renamed above and select it, now click open
6. It should now open the document

I hope this helps someone, if not, visit some authoritative resources...

Well, there are many reasons responsible behind getting the unreadable content error.
  • Due to the entire excel file corruption
  • Corruption of one or more object in the excel file
  • Or else due to virus or malware as this damage the excel file data
And to fix it try the below given solution:

  • First Try to open your ‘.xls or .xlsx’ file by making it ‘read-only’
  • Now click on the ‘Office button’ and then select ‘save’ for a new document or ‘save as’ for the previously saved document.
  • Next, you have to click on the ‘Tools’ and then select ‘General Option’.
  • Last but not the least, click on the ‘read-only’ check-box to make document read-only.
  • Now you have to open a new and blank ‘.xls/.xlsx’ file and then copy the whole data from the corrupted Excel file to this new one. Now simply save this file and try to open it again.
